New Delhi: President's rule was lifted from Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday. After this, the way has been cleared for the formation of a new government in the Union Territory. The Home Ministry has issued a notification in this regard. The notification issued under the signature of President Draupadi Murmu said that the order of October 31, 2019 regarding Jammu and Kashmir will be revoked immediately before the appointment of the Chief Minister.
President's rule was imposed in 2019
The National Conference and Congress alliance has won the recent assembly elections and preparations are underway to form the government. National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah will be the next chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. He has been elected the leader of the alliance. President's rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir on 31 October 2019 after the state of Jammu and Kashmir was formally divided into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
Article 370 was repealed on August 5
The Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act- 2019 was passed by the Parliament on 5 August 2019. Article 370 of the Constitution was also repealed on the same day. However, even before 31 October 2019, Jammu and Kashmir was under central rule, as the then Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti resigned in June 2017 after the BJP withdrew support.
Who won how many seats?
There are a total of 90 seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. National Conference won the maximum number of seats, 42. BJP became the second largest party with 29 assembly seats. Congress won six seats. PDP won three and JPC won one seat.
Other parties have dominated six assembly seats. Aam Aadmi Party won one seat. Congress and National Conference contested the elections in alliance. On Friday, Omar Abdullah met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and staked claim to form the government.
51 faces became MLAs for the first time
In Jammu and Kashmir, 51 out of 90 winning candidates have won the assembly elections for the first time. 24 candidates of National Conference and 15 candidates of BJP have become MLAs for the first time. Two members of Congress have won the assembly elections for the first time. Let us tell you that this time the assembly elections were held in three phases in Jammu and Kashmir. The first phase was on 18th and the second on 25th September. The third phase of voting took place on 1st October. The election results were announced on 8th October.
