The US space agency NASA is preparing for a large-scale mission to the moon. Under its Artemis mission, NASA is preparing to send humans to the moon again after 1972. But this time NASA plans to allow astronauts to stay there for a longer time, so that more possibilities of discovery can be explored.

That's why NASA is preparing to build a house on the moon, in which astronauts can live. According to the preliminary information shared by NASA, astronauts can live inside a three-story "inflatable" space house during their trip to the moon. NASA plans to install this house on the moon by 2030.

Mission can be completed by 2030

After this, astronauts going to the surface of the moon under the Artemis mission can sleep inside the giant pod by the 2030s. Although NASA has not yet confirmed the final design for the Lunar Surface Habitat, the initial pictures released by it can give an idea of what this special space house could look like.

NASA plans that astronauts will dock at an orbiting space station called the Lunar Gateway and then land on the moon for the mission. NASA's Paul Kessler said in 2022, 'NASA is currently working on concepts for crewed missions to the lunar surface, under which passengers on a continuous mission would be able to stay there on an annual basis for periods of 30 days or more.'

Will be able to stay on the surface of the moon for a long time

He said that to provide accommodation and support to astronauts, NASA is exploring the use of building habitats on the lunar surface. This will help in staying on the moon for a longer period of time, which will lead to more discoveries and humans will be able to get new information about the moon, especially about its south pole.

According to the information, the house design that NASA is working on will be a three-storey structure, the upper part of which will be inflatable. All the things necessary for living will be provided in this house. It can also serve as a test-bed for future housing on Mars. There will also be an aluminum dock on the lower deck of the structure.

Four crew members can stay at a time

The habitat can accommodate up to four crew members on the surface for short periods of time, NASA said. The first level will have airlock access as well as access to a work bench, computer station and spacesuit port. It will also include private crew quarters, storage, a galley kitchen and a medical area with a stowable bed.
