Kazan (Russia):  Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks after nearly 5 years on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia. The talks lasted for about 40 minutes. The Indian Foreign Ministry said that PM Modi met the President of the People's Republic of China Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan today. During this, PM Modi welcomed the recent agreement for complete disengagement and resolution of issues that arose in 2020 in the India-China border areas. 

Prime Minister Modi underscored the importance of properly handling differences and disputes and not allowing peace to be disrupted. The two leaders agreed that the Special Representatives on the India-China Boundary Question would meet soon to monitor the management of peace in the border areas and to seek a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable solution to the boundary question. Relevant dialogue would be held at the level of Foreign Ministers and other officials to stabilise and restore bilateral relations.

A major agreement reached between India and China

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders affirmed that stable, predictable and cordial bilateral relations between India and China, as two neighbours and the two largest nations on earth, will have a positive impact on regional and global peace and prosperity. It will also contribute to a multipolar Asia and a multipolar world. The two leaders underlined the need to advance bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, enhance strategic communication and seek cooperation to address development challenges.

Mutual respect is necessary for good relations: PM Modi 

After meeting Chinese President Xi Jinping, Prime Minister Modi said that mutual respect is necessary for good relations. He said that our cooperation is necessary for world peace and stability. We have had formal talks after 5 years. We welcome the initiative of peace agreement on LAC.

During a bilateral meeting with PM Modi in Kazan, Chinese President Xi Jinping said, "...it is important for the two sides to have greater communication and cooperation, properly handle our differences and disagreements, and meet each other's development aspirations. It is also important to set an example for promoting the strength and unity of developing countries, and contribute to promoting multi-polarization and democracy in international relations." Therefore, it is important for both sides to shoulder international responsibilities.

PM Modi wrote that he met Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Kazan BRICS Summit. 
India-China relations are important for the people of our countries as well as for regional and global peace and stability. Mutual trust, mutual respect and mutual sensitivity will guide bilateral relations.
