Addressing the Indian diaspora here on Tuesday, on the last day of his two-day visit to Spain, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stressed on India's current position in the world and said India is ready to help every country in difficult times.
Given the current situation in the world, all countries feel that it is in their interest to have good relations with India. Jaishankar underlined India's growing global stature and its ability to provide meaningful assistance in challenging times.
What did Jaishankar say on India-Spain relations?
He said India-Spain relations are on the cusp of significant progress. Speaking about his engagement with the Spanish diplomatic community, he said the Spanish Foreign Minister had invited him to address the country's ambassadors at a global conference.
Highlighting India's growing influence, he said, "When the foreign ministry and ambassador of another country ask you to come and talk to them, it is appropriate to think why this is being done.
'Every country wants to be friends with India'
The Foreign Minister said that given the situation in the world today, all countries feel that it is in their interest to maintain good relations with India.
Jaishankar described India as a "new India", which is known globally for its economic strength and leadership. He said that there are very few countries that are in a position to talk to Russia and Ukraine and Israel and Iran. We are part of the Quad as well as BRICS. PM Modi is capable of doing both.
Jaishankar referred to India's efforts in advocating for Africa's inclusion in the G-20 and India's role during the COVID-19 pandemic.
