New Delhi: The prestigious magazine Forbes has released the list of 'India's 100 richest' people for 2024. In this list, Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani is at number one and Adani Group owner Gautam Adani is at number two. Ratan Tata's name is not included in this list, who passed away on October 9. He was the honorary chairman of Tata Sons.
According to the list, the wealth of the country's rich has collectively crossed the one trillion dollar mark. It has currently reached 1.1 trillion dollars. The wealth of more than 80 percent of the country's rich has increased even more. 58 of them have increased their net worth by 1 billion dollars or more. At the same time, the top 12 people in this list have almost half of the total wealth of the top 100.
Ambani tops, Adani second
Reliance Industries Chairman and MD Mukesh Ambani tops the list with an estimated net worth of $119.5 billion. However, in dollar terms, he is the second-biggest gainer, adding $27.5 billion this year.
After Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani and his family are on the list. His estimated wealth from diversified business is $116 billion. The owner of Adani Group has earned the highest profit of $48 billion in a year.
Savitri Jindal is also included in the list
India's richest woman Savitri Jindal and her family are in third place. Their estimated net worth from metal and mining business is $43.7 billion. Shiv Nadar is in fourth place with an estimated net worth of $40.2 billion. He is the chairman of HLC Enterprise. Dilip Sanghvi and his family are in the top five with an estimated net worth of $32.4 billion from Sun Pharmaceuticals.
The rest of the industrialists in the top 10 include Radhakishan Damani and family (estimated worth $31.5 billion), Sunil Mittal and family (estimated worth $30.7 billion), Kumar Birla (estimated worth $24.8 billion), Cyrus Poonawala (estimated worth $24.5 billion) and the Bajaj family (estimated worth $23.4 billion).
Mahim Datla new entry in women
Mahima Datla, head of vaccine maker Biological E, is the new female entrant in the top 100 list. Other new faces include B Partha Saradhi Reddy, founder of Hetero Labs; Harish Ahuja, owner of Shahi Exports, which supplies products to H&M and Calvin Klein; and Surendra Saluja, founder of newly listed Premier Energies (solar panel and module manufacturer) on the stock market.
Pharma and real estate company bosses made big gains on the list. These include Sanghvi, Sudhir Mehta and Sameer Mehta of Torrent Pharmaceuticals, Irfan Razak of Prestige Estates Projects and the Godrej family. The youngest person on the list is Nikhil Kamath (38) of brokerage platform Zerodha.
