According to the Vedic calendar, 29th January is Mauni Amavasya. On this auspicious occasion, it is customary to take a bath in the Ganga. It is stated in the Sanatan scriptures that taking a bath in the Ganga on Mauni Amavasya liberates one from sins committed knowingly or unknowingly. Along with this, one gets the blessings of Mother Ganga.

On the day of Mauni Amavasya, after taking a bath in the Ganges, Lord Shiva is worshipped with devotion. On Amavasya Tithi, tarpan and pinddaan are also performed for the ancestors. By performing tarpan and pinddaan for ancestors on Mauni Amavasya, ancestors of three generations attain salvation. At the same time, the blessings of ancestors shower on the Sadhak i.e. the person. Their blessings increase happiness and good fortune. If you also want to get the blessings of the ancestors, then do tarpan for ancestors on the day of Mauni Amavasya . At the same time, do recite these stotras while performing tarpan.
