These days the problem of infertility is rapidly catching people in its grip. At present, not only women, but men are also falling prey to it. Infertility can be caused by many reasons. Meanwhile, a fresh study has recently come out regarding this. In this study, it was found that infertility in men and women has been linked to various types of pollution.
This research conducted in Denmark showed how air and noise pollution increases the risk of infertility in men and women. Let's know about this study in detail-
What does the study say?
According to a study published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ), air pollution increases the risk of infertility in men and noise pollution increases the risk of infertility in women. This research included 526,056 men and 377,850 women aged 30 to 45 years. However, this study did not include men who underwent sterilization and women who underwent surgery to prevent pregnancy.
Connection between pollution and infertility?
The study found that men exposed to air pollution for an average of five years had a higher risk of infertility. Noise pollution was the leading cause of infertility in women. Women over the age of 35 and men over the age of 37 were more likely to be exposed to noise due to traffic.
Exposure to PM2.5 levels 2.9 micrograms per cubic meter above the average over five years increased the risk of infertility by 24 percent. Over the 18-year period, 16,172 men and 22,672 women were diagnosed with infertility.
What is infertility?
Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after at least one year of regular, unprotected sex. There can be many reasons behind this, including pollution, tobacco and alcohol use, sexually transmitted infections, various chronic diseases, obesity and being underweight .
