Kanpur News: Green Kanpur, Clean Kanpur campaign has come to a halt and there are heaps of garbage everywhere in the city. The garbage collection work has come to a complete halt. Kanpur Municipal Corporation is responsible for garbage disposal but Kanpur Municipal Corporation is helpless at this time because the vehicles used to collect garbage are not in running condition. Kanpur Municipal Corporation does not have the arrangement of petrol and diesel to run these vehicles. The authorized petrol pump has refused to give fuel to the Municipal Corporation. Also, an ultimatum has been given to pay the previous dues.
The Nagar Nigam has about 400 vehicles which collect the city's garbage but for the last 4 months, the payment of Rs. 1200 crore has not been made to the authorized petrol pumps. Petrol pump owners had high hopes of getting their bills paid by the Nagar Nigam but their hopes do not seem to be fulfilled. About 250 tonnes of garbage is generated from the outskirts of the city which is sent to the Panki plant outside the city but now due to lack of fuel, that too is not reaching the plant. There are heaps of garbage in all the areas of the city, whether it is the JCBs that collect garbage or the vehicles that carry garbage, all are standing lifeless without fuel.
What does the Municipal Commissioner say?
Municipal Commissioner Sudhir Kumar denied this and said that the garbage is being disposed of and there is no problem. If the officials of the Driver Safai Karamchari Sangh are to be believed, the Municipal Corporation has not paid the dues yet, due to which the garbage heaps are not being cleared. About 7000 liters of fuel is required daily and the authorized pump owners have refused to give fuel. There are many areas in the city where there are heaps of garbage.
