To stay healthy, it is important that you include healthy things in your diet. These will maintain your fitness. On the other hand, eating fried things makes you vulnerable to many diseases. Recently, junk foods have gained prominence in health-related news. New studies have shown that eating them can cause many health problems. Research has found that eating more junk foods (Junk Food Side Effects) increases thigh fat. A study by the University of South Florida has linked ultra-processed foods to an increased risk of colon cancer. However, now researchers from Monash University have put forth their point.

Dr. Barbara Cardoso of the Department of Nutrition, Dietetics and Food at Monash University said that this study shows that we should take a healthy diet as much as possible (What Foods Cause Aging). In this study, the diet and health of more than 16,000 people aged 20 to 79 years in America were surveyed. This data was collected between 2003 and 2010 under the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES).

This is how age increases

Researchers assessed the junk food consumed by the participants using the Nova Classification System. The quality of the diet was evaluated using the American Heart Association's 2020 guidelines and the Healthy Eating Index 2015. During this period, every 10% increase in energy obtained from ultra-processed foods was observed. Participants were found to be 0.21 years older.

Advice for adopting a healthy diet

People who ate the most junk foods (68-100% of energy) were 0.86 years older than those who ate the least processed foods (39% or less). However, this effect was slightly reduced when adopting a healthy diet. This study adds another danger to the long list of dangers of ultra-processed foods. It increases the risk of many diseases. It also accelerates the process of aging. Eating less ultra-processed foods can slow down aging.

Other disadvantages of eating junk food

  • If you eat too much junk food, the level of sugar in the blood increases. This increases the risk of diabetes as well as heart disease.
  • Ultra processed foods have high fat content. This can reduce good cholesterol. Blood sugar levels in the body can increase.
  • The calories present in junk food increase weight rapidly. Obesity can prove to be effective in increasing respiratory problems and asthma. The results of which will be visible when you climb stairs, workout, walk.
