AP. 80 countries of the world have signed a statement making the condition of maintaining the territorial integrity of Ukraine the main basis for ending the war, but 12 countries including India have refused to sign the statement, fearing that this condition could lead to a conflict situation.

India has made it clear that it is in favour of establishing peace in Ukraine through dialogue. Sunday was the last day of the peace conference on Ukraine held at the Bürgenstock Resort in Switzerland to resolve the dispute.

Saudi Arabia, South Africa and UAE did not sign

In the absence of Russia, which attacked Ukraine, an attempt was made to find a peaceful way to end the 28-month-long war. Most of the western countries including the US and major developing countries took part in it. The final document prepared after two days of discussion includes the condition of territorial integrity as well as points related to nuclear security, food security and exchange of prisoners.

Twelve countries, including India, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and UAE, have not signed the final document, citing some points of it as unclear. Brazil, which is participating in the conference as an observer, has also not signed the final document (joint statement), but Turkey, which has played the role of mediator between Russia and Ukraine on several occasions, has signed it.

hosted by the President of Switzerland

India had official level representation in the conference. The joint statement said that Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity should be respected as per the UN Charter. This condition should be the main basis whenever there is a peace agreement to end the war there.

"The overwhelming agreement on the joint statement shows that we have achieved an important success in the path of diplomacy to achieve our goals," said Swiss President Viola Amherd, who is hosting the summit.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has expressed happiness over the success of the first step taken for peace in Ukraine. He said that this is a victory of the United Nations Charter.
