Eknath Shinde-led faction, the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) has launched the 'Save Tiger Mission.' This campaign aims to reinforce the party's commitment to environmental conservation and resonate with its traditional symbol, the tiger. Uddhav Thackeray, a wildlife enthusiast and photographer, has a longstanding history of advocating for tiger conservation. During his tenure as Chief Minister of Maharashtra, he took decisive actions to protect tiger habitats. Notably, in January 2020, he halted the Human dam project in Chandrapur district to preserve the corridor near the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, emphasizing that development should not come at the expense of wildlife.
Objectives of the 'Save Tiger Mission'
The 'Save Tiger Mission' is designed to:
Raise Awareness: Educate the public about the importance of tiger conservation and the ecological balance they maintain.
Promote Environmental Initiatives: Encourage community participation in afforestation and habitat preservation projects.
Strengthen Party Identity: Reinforce the association of the tiger symbol with the party's legacy and values.
Future Plans
In addition to the conservation campaign, the Uddhav Thackeray faction has outlined several key initiatives:
Educational Reforms: Proposing free education for boys in government schools, expanding the existing scheme that benefits girls.
Economic Measures: Implementing price stabilization for essential commodities like pulses, oil, sugar, and rice to combat inflation and support the common populace.
Cultural Projects: Erecting statues of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in all districts to honor Maharashtra's rich heritage and inspire unity.
