A major attack took place on a hospital in the Sudanese city of El Fasher, in which about 70 people have been killed. The head of the World Health Organization has given this information. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus gave this information in a post on the social platform X.
Officials in the capital of North Darfur province and others cited similar figures on Saturday, but Ghebreyesus is the first international source to provide casualty figures.
70 patients and their companions died
"The horrific attack on a Saudi hospital in El Fasher, Sudan, left 19 people injured and 70 patients and their companions dead," Tedros Adhanom wrote. "At the time of the attack, the hospital was packed with patients receiving care.
Tedros Adhanom did not say who carried out the attack, though local officials blamed the rebel Rapid Support Forces for the assault. The RSF did not immediately admit blame but has been threatening El Fasher in recent days.
