Bobby Deol was reluctant to play the role of Nirala Baba in 'Ashram'. He had told in an interview- I was very scared during the 'Ashram' web series. I was not afraid of whether I would be able to do the role or not, but I was afraid that people might take this character in the wrong way. ' Bobby did not even tell his father Dharmendra, brother Sunny and mother that he was doing such a role. Bobby says that I felt that my family members might refuse to let me do such a role.

Bobby also shared his experience after the release of the Ashram series. He told in an interview- When I reached home after the release of the series, my mother was angry. She asked me, what kind of role have you played? How could you play this role?' Bobby further told that even though his mother scolded him for this role, she was happy with the praise he received for this character. Father Dharmendra Deol praised Bobby's role and called him a good actor. He told Bobby that he also wanted to play such different characters.
