On this auspicious day, devotees observe fast and pray to Lord Shiva for the well-being of their family. It is believed that this fast is very dear to Lord Shiva. This time this fast (Guru Pradosh Vrat 2024) is being observed on Thursday, July 18, 2024, i.e. today. Due to falling on Thursday, it is also known as Guru Pradosh.

On the day of Guru Pradosh, Lord Shiva will reside on Kailash with Goddess Parvati till 08:44 pm.

On this date, Brahma Yoga has been formed at 06:14 am. With this, it will conclude on the morning of July 19, 2024.

According to the Vedic calendar, the Trayodashi date of Shukla Paksha of Ashadh month will start on July 18, 2024 at 08:44 pm and will end the next day on July 19, 2024 at 07:41 pm. In such a situation, Guru Pradosh fast will be observed today i.e. on July 18. Apart from this, Shiva Puja will be done on this date between 08:44 pm to 09:23 pm.

Passing rules

The fasting person should wake up early in the morning and take a bath. Perform Abhishekam of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. Light a lamp of pure ghee and decorate the idol with flowers and garland. Apply a tilak of white sandalwood and kumkum. Offer them kheer, halwa, fruits, sweets etc. Recite Panchakshari Mantra and Shiv Chalisa. Perform Aarti by singing with devotion. Conclude the puja by blowing the conch. After this, break your fast with Shiv Prasad.

The fasting person should break his fast with satvik food only. Stay away from tamasic things. Stay away from wrong conduct. After the fast is over, do charity and pious deeds, this gives the full benefit of the puja.
