Authorities in India's neighboring country Pakistan have prepared to launch a new campaign to take action against tax evaders. According to the report, an official source said that the FBR has identified 2.4 million potential taxpayers, who were not present in the tax rolls. Later notices were issued to these persons. FBR has identified more than 0.5 million persons out of 2.4 million for deactivation of SIMs. These individuals have not filed their returns for tax year 2023.
According to the Active Taxpayers List (ATL), FBR received returns of 4.2 million taxpayers till March 1, 2024, compared to 3.8 million returns during the same period last year. There seems to be a slight increase in this.
SIM will automatically turn on after filing a return
In tax year 2022, FBR received a total of 5.9 million tax returns. According to the FBR official, the SIMs will be automatically restored for the individuals filing tax returns for 2023. Every Monday, FBR updates its ATL listing.
Every Tuesday, the names of persons appearing in the ATL list will be identified and sent to PTA and telecom companies for restoration. The officer emphasized that there will be no separate process of reinstatement, the entire process will happen automatically.
