The Chinese military has started using the AI tool DeepSeek in military hospitals as well as other non-combat support tasks. This has been started especially in military hospitals to help doctors prepare treatment plans.
Earlier this month, the General Hospital of the PLA Central Theater Command announced that it had authorized the deployment of DeepSeek, the South China Morning Post said. The hospital also emphasized patient privacy and data security.
Deployment to military hospitals
Similar deployments have been seen at other military hospitals across the country, including the Beijing-based PLA General Hospital, also known as the 301 Hospital, which treats senior Chinese officials and military officers and is believed to store highly sensitive personal data.
However, earlier the Chinese military had cautioned its armed forces against relying too much on artificial intelligence, saying it should be a guidance tool and not a substitute for human decision-making on the battlefield as it lacks self-awareness capability.
