The case of sexual harassment of an 18-year-old Dalit athlete in Kerala by 58 people in the last 5 years shocked the country. Police have arrested 44 people after investigation.

Many shocking revelations have also been made in the investigation. According to this, it was started by the childhood friend of the victim. According to the report, 44 out of 58 people who sexually assaulted the victim were from the same Dalit colony or nearby areas where the victim lived.

Childhood friend an accused

In this case, 29 separate cases have been registered in 4 police stations under POCSO and SC-ST Act. Investigation has revealed that the victim had a childhood friend named Subin. Her harassment started when she was 13 years old.

Subin and the victim's house were nearby. Both were childhood friends. Subin first harassed the victim and recorded photos and videos. After this, he used these to sexually harass her repeatedly.

Victim's classmates also involved

• After this, Subin told two more people about this. Together they kept sexually harassing her for the next few years. Gradually, the victim's information and pictures reached many people. This included the victim's classmates as well.
• The people arrested by the police include daily wage workers and drivers. Most of them are married and live nearby. Among the accused, 4 are minors and 2 were minors at the time of the incident. Most of them had contacted the victim through Instagram and WhatsApp.

The victim had narrated her ordeal

The victim said that many times more than one person raped her. One of the accused was from Thiruvananthapuram, which is more than 100 kilometers away from the victim's city. Two of the accused are currently out of the country.

The matter came to light when the victim talked about this to her school teacher. The school teacher took her to the counselor of Snehita, a scheme run by the state government for women empowerment. The victim told the counselor about the heinous incident that happened with her.
