Now something similar can happen with electricity rates. Now in Uttar Pradesh, electricity can become expensive or cheap every month, not every year. The Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission is going to give the power companies the right to automatically fix and implement the Fuel and Power Purchase Adjustment Surcharge every month. For this, the Regulatory Commission will hold a public hearing on September 19 to amend the existing rules.

Let us tell you that at present there is a system of fixing fuel surcharge in 3 months but before applying it on consumers, the power companies have to take approval from the Regulatory Commission. In such a situation, proposals related to fuel surcharge are getting stuck in the Regulatory Commission during the hearing itself. Now the central government has made a rule to apply fuel surcharge on consumers on a monthly basis instead of 3 months.

Public hearing to be held on September 19

On the basis of this, Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission is also going to make changes in its rules and public hearing in this regard is to be held on September 19. In the draft made public by the commission regarding amendment in the rules, it is also proposed that electricity companies will have the right to automatically impose fuel surcharge every month.

In this regard, the President of the Consumer Council, Avadhesh Prasad Verma, says that if a law is made, then the electricity companies will arbitrarily assess the fuel charge and impose it on the consumers. This will sometimes increase the burden on the consumers and sometimes provide them relief, but the history of the electricity companies has not been one of relief, so the Consumer Council will not allow this black law to be implemented.
