Diwali festival has special significance in Sanatan Dharma. According to the Hindu calendar, Diwali festival is celebrated on Amavasya in the month of Kartik, which is one of the biggest festivals of Hindus. This year there is a lot of confusion about the correct date of Diwali festival. According to the calendar, this time Diwali festival is being celebrated today i.e. on 31st October.

Why is Deepotsav for 6 days?

This year Deepotsav has started with Dhanteras on Tuesday, 29 October. Bhai Dooj will be celebrated on Sunday, 03 November. Thus, Deepotsav will not be of 5 days but will last for 6 days. The reason for this is that Kartik Amavasya Tithi is starting on 31 October at 03:52 pm. This Tithi will last till 06:16 pm on 1 November. Thus, Kartik Amavasya will last for two days i.e. 31 October and 1 November. Due to which this time Deepotsav will be celebrated for 06 days.

When will Govardhan be celebrated (Govardhan Puja Date)

This time Govardhan will be celebrated on Saturday, 02 November, because Kartik Amavasya will last till 01 November. Govardhan Puja is celebrated on Kartik Shukla Paksha Pratipada Tithi. In such a situation, Pratipada Tithi is starting on 01 November at 06:16 pm. At the same time, this date will end on 02 November at 08:21 pm. In such a situation, according to Udaya Tithi, celebrating the festival of Govardhan on Saturday, 02 November is considered more auspicious.
