Himachal Pradesh News: The first solar energy project has been inaugurated in Dharamshala, the headquarters of Kangra, the largest district of Himachal Pradesh. Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the project. Its work started in October 2023 and ended in November 2024.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, who was on a visit to Kangra, has inaugurated it. This project includes 1,364 solar panels. The state government has spent Rs 4.74 crore on this and it will generate two thousand units of electricity daily. It is estimated to generate an income of Rs 2.80 lakh every month.

Target to become a green energy state by the year 2026

For the first time in Himachal Pradesh, the government is moving towards developing 200 panchayats as 'Green Panchayats' by installing 200 kW ground-mounted solar plants. Earlier, the 32 MW Pekhubela Solar Power Project in the home district of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri was dedicated to the public on April 15, 2024. From April to October, this project generated 34.19 million units of electricity in six and a half months. This has earned Rs 10.16 crore.

Apart from this, a 5 MW solar power project was started in Bhanjal of Una district from November 30, 2024. Similarly, the work of 10 MW Aghlaur solar power project is to be completed soon. It is worth noting that the Himachal Pradesh government has also set a target of becoming a green energy state by March 2026. 

Government is promoting green energy- CM Sukhu 

During this, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu said that the state government is promoting green energy. Work is being done on bringing a big plan to use solar energy. Seven solar energy projects with a combined capacity of 72 MW will be allotted soon. Apart from this, survey and study work is going on for eight projects with a capacity of 325 MW. During this, Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu also reiterated the goal of making Himachal Pradesh the number one state by the year 2032.
