Former head of India at Citigroup Ashu Khullar is appointed to co-lead global asset managers unit at Citi. He shared this role with Anthony Diamandakis, and will move to London to assist the bank in expanding its relationships with sponsors all over Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. By broadening its financial sponsors coverage under its new banking head, Vis Raghavan, Citigroup looks to expand the financing for deals to win big M&A deals. In particular, the firm has recruited several key professionals across its sponsors team: Sidharth Punshi from JPMorgan to head the UK, Europe, and MEA alternative assets group, and John LaVoie from Wells Fargo to lead the West Coast sponsors M&A team. K Balasubramanian will replace Khullar as head of the India subcontinent sub-cluster and banking head. India is one of Citi’s largest markets with strong business momentum and Asia South and banking head Amol Gupte emphasized the importance of India.
