The central government has issued a warning to OTT platforms regarding the increasing use and promotion of drugs in web series. If the lead actors and other artists are found inadvertently promoting, glorifying or doing something like this on these platforms, which have become a mobile means of entertainment, without giving a warning or disclaimer, then a regulatory investigation can be initiated.
Ministry warned OTT platform
The advisory issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to the OTT platform states that showing such scenes can have serious consequences, especially on young and impressionable viewers, due to its potential impact. Citing the code of conduct for OTT platforms, it has also been asked to issue disclaimers and warnings with due prudence in reviewing the content regarding showing scenes of intoxicants. The ministry said-
The code of conduct issued for the OTT platform states that if any content is prohibited under any law or by any court, then no publisher shall broadcast, publish or display it. These guidelines have also been sent to the self-regulatory bodies of the OTT platform.
There is no censor on OTT
At present, apart from the silver screens, the number of people fond of movies and web series on OTT is increasing rapidly. In which obscene scenes and drug scenes are also shown in abundance. Now the central government has come into action mode regarding these. But you will be surprised to know that there is no censor board for films and series on OTT platforms.
Due to which the makers have the freedom to present any kind of scenes and content. Now that the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken a stance to curb the promotion of drugs on OTT, the day is not far when the censor board can also come on the digital platform.
