Patiala House Court has extended the interim bail of Baramulla MP and engineer Rashid, accused in the terror funding case. The interim bail period has been extended till October 28 on the basis of the health of the MP's father. The court has asked him to surrender by 12 noon on October 28.
Engineer Rashid's lawyer said that he will not ask for further extension of interim bail. The court will give its verdict on the MP's regular bail plea on October 28 at 1 pm.
Meanwhile, Peoples Conference Party president Sajad Gani Lone said that just as the court granted bail to Baramulla MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid alias Engineer Rashid, common accused should also be granted bail.
In a post on the social media platform 'X', Lone said, "My humble request to the Delhi court. Please will you show the same generosity in extending the bail period or granting bail as you are showing in the case of a VVIP accused and an MP."
The People's Conference president made this remark on the decision of a Delhi court to extend interim bail of engineer Rashid till October 28. He said, "Two people died in jail in similar or similar cases. No bail was granted. Most of the other accused are elderly and suffer from many diseases. They also need relief. They also have families. They have their own domestic problems. They are also human beings."
The representative elected from Handwara in the newly elected assembly said that the responsibility of the highest judicial standards and impartiality rests on the concerned courts and investigating agencies. He said, "Courts should show similar generosity. The investigating agencies are not opposed to extending the bail period. They need to show similar mercy towards other accused as well." Lone said, "Let there not be two rules. One rule should apply to everyone."
