New Delhi: The Supreme Court will pronounce its verdict on Friday on Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging his arrest by the ED in a money laundering case linked to the excise policy scam. According to the agenda of July 12 uploaded on the website of the apex court, a bench headed by Justice Sanjeev Khanna will pronounce its verdict on the petition. This bench also includes Justice Dipankar Dutta. On May 17, the bench had reserved its decision.
On April 15, a reply was sought from ED
The apex court had sought the ED's response to Kejriwal's plea on April 15. Kejriwal has challenged the Delhi High Court's April 9 order which had upheld his arrest. The High Court said that there was nothing illegal in this and after repeated summons, he did not appear and refused to join the investigation, the ED was left with little option.
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21
Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in the money laundering case. On June 20, the trial court granted him bail on a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. After this, the ED challenged it in the High Court the very next day. The High Court upheld the trial court's order by putting an interim stay on June 21 and issued a detailed order on June 25.
