Salt intake is necessary not just for taste but also to fulfil iodine deficiency. However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has recently stated that we should not consume more than 5 grams of salt daily. Excessive salt intake can increase the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

 

Processed Meats

Processed meats such as sausages, ham and bacon are high in salt. Chemicals are used to preserve these products for a long time. Several studies suggest that consuming large amounts of processed meat may increase the risk of colorectal cancer.

 

Trans Fat

Cholesterol is essential for our body, but it is very important that its quantity is balanced. Packed snacks and fast foods often contain things that increase the amount of cholesterol in our body . These not only increase the total cholesterol but also reduce the good cholesterol. Therefore, the consumption of these foods should be minimized.

 

Refined grains

Refined grains like white bread, pasta and rice have very low fiber content. They contain high amounts of sugar and calories. Because of this, these food items are unable to provide adequate nutrition to the body and increase the risk of obesity and related diseases.
