Pilibhit. The Sharda river has started overflowing again. One and a half lakh cusecs of water was released from the Vanbasa Barrage yesterday. On the other hand, the weather department has predicted heavy rains on Sunday and Monday.
The surging Sharda river has once again started scaring the people living in the coastal villages of Puranpur and Kalinagar tehsil areas which have already suffered the brunt of floods. The revenue department teams are constantly monitoring the water level of the Sharda river.
The loss was incurred earlier this month
The floods in Sharda since the first week of July have caused a lot of damage. The survey of the damage caused at that time and relief work is still going on. Meanwhile, the water level in the Sharda river is continuously rising and falling. Many places in the trans area of Puranpur are still filled with water.
SDM alerted
On Friday, about 1.5 lakh cusecs of additional water was released into the river from Vanbasa Barrage. This caused the river to swell. Rajesh Kumar Shukla, the sub-district magistrate of Puranpur, reached Hazara area and alerted the villagers to ensure that the water released into the river may cause a flood. He inspected the river in two villages. At present, there is relief from erosion but people are worried due to the rising water level in the river.
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rain
Firstly, excess water was released into the river and secondly, the weather department has predicted heavy rains again on Sunday and Monday. Arrangements are being made at the flood shelter in Nahrosa village. On the other hand, the water level of Sharda river is rising in Kalinagar tehsil area. Due to the rising water level, the villagers are again worried about floods. The teams of the irrigation department and the revenue department are also constantly monitoring the water level of the river.
