There lived a king named Kuber in heaven, who was a great devotee of Bholenath. He used to worship Shiva daily. One day he had a gardener named Hem, who used to bring flowers for him daily. The gardener's wife's name was Vishalakshi. She was very beautiful. Once in the morning the gardener brought flowers from Mansarovar, but due to being lustful he started joking with his wife. The king got late in worshiping, due to which he got angry. In such a situation, the king cursed the gardener. He said that you have given more priority to lust than devotion to God, you will fall from heaven and you will face separation from your wife and leprosy on earth.
When the gardener got leprosy
After this he fell on the earth, due to which he got leprosy and he also lost his wife. He continued to suffer on earth for many years. Once Mali saw Markandeya Rishi. Then he told him all the problems of his life. Sage Mali was surprised to hear this. In such a situation, Markandeya Rishi told him about the importance of fasting on Yogini Ekadashi .
Effect of fasting
Markandeya said that by observing this fast, all the sins of your life will end and you will again attain heaven. Mali did exactly as the sage had told him. After this, Lord Vishnu forgave all his sins and gave him a place in heaven again.
