New Delhi: Hamas has elected its new chief on Tuesday. Yahya Ibrahim Hassan Sinwar has been given the responsibility of Hamas chief. Ismail Haniya was assassinated in Tehran on 31 July. 61-year-old Yahya Sinwar has a long history of struggle. 

He has spent half of his young life in prison. He has spent about 23 years in Israeli prison. After the death of Haniya, he is the most powerful leader of Hamas.

He served 23 years in an Israeli prison

Yahya Sinwar, born in 1962 in the Khan Younis refugee camp in southern Gaza, has been associated with Hamas since 1987. Yahya's parents were from Ashkelon. Hamas was founded this year. It is worth mentioning that Israel arrested him this year and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He was accused of killing two Israeli soldiers and kidnapping four Palestinians. He has been in Israeli jail for about 23 years.

Yahya Sinwar spent nearly 23 years in prison. In 2011, he was released under a prisoner exchange deal in exchange for the release of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit. After this, in 2012, Yahya Sinwar was selected in our political bureau and was entrusted with the task of coordinating with the Qassam Brigades.

America declared him a terrorist in 2015

He played an important role in the seven-week war against Israel in Gaza in 2014. This year, a rumor spread that Yahya Sinwar had died, but it turned out to be just a rumor. After this, in 2015, America declared him a terrorist. Yahya Sinwar was made a member of the Politburo of Hamas in 2017.

Yahya Sinwar is considered a cruel person. There are many stories of his cruelty. Sinwar had a man buried alive by his brother on suspicion of spying for Israel. In 2015, Hamas commander Mahmoud Ishtiwi was tortured to death on Sinwar's orders.  

He is also called Osama bin Laden of Palestine. He has also killed many Palestinians. In fact, it is believed that he does not leave alive the Palestinians who help Israel in any way. It is also said that if a person is saying no to Sinwar, then he is saying no to his life. He is also called the butcher of Khan Yunis.
