News Topical, Digital Desk : One of the most discussed decisions made by US President Donald Trump in recent days has been the H-1B visa. President Trump decided to impose a $100,000 annual fee for H-1B visa applications. Meanwhile, the US Chamber of Commerce is planning to challenge Trump's decision in court.

In fact, the US President had claimed that this decision would significantly strengthen America's economic position. Now, the effects of Trump's decision are beginning to be seen. Many companies have stopped issuing these visas to their employees, which has directly affected many people.

US Chamber of Commerce moves court against Trump's decision

The US Chamber of Commerce is preparing to sue the Trump administration, claiming the fees are illegal and potentially causing significant harm to US businesses.

In a federal case filed in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, the chamber asked the court to declare that President Donald Trump had violated the executive branch's authority by imposing the fee and barred federal government agencies from enforcing it.

The H-1B visa is available in the US for highly skilled jobs that tech companies find difficult to fill. Indians are the most commonly employed in the US using this visa.

What was said in the case filed against the Trump administration?

  • The US Chamber of Commerce says the new H-1B visa fees violate immigration laws, which require that fees be based on the government's costs of processing the visa.
  • The court filing stated that the US president has considerable authority over the entry of non-citizens into the US, but this authority is bound by law and no one has the right to override it. According to the chamber, before Trump announced the new fees, most H-1B visa applications cost less than $3,600.
  • The court filing argued that if implemented, the fee would significantly harm American businesses, which would either have to significantly increase their labor costs or hire fewer highly skilled workers for whom domestic replacements would not be readily available.
  • This visa also helps a large number of Indians to work in the United States. If the court grants relief in this matter, it will be a significant relief for those seeking employment in the United States.
