News Topical, Digital Desk : Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that if the US supplies Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles during the war, its relations with Russia will be damaged.
Putin's statement came less than two months after his meeting with US President Donald Trump in Alaska. The Tomahawk is a missile with a range of 2,500 kilometers.
The Russia-Ukraine war has been going on for 44 months.
Once the Ukrainian army receives these missiles, the 44-month-long war will enter a new phase. So far, the US and its allies have not provided Ukraine with long-range missiles to attack Russia, despite Ukraine's persistent demands for them.
Russia objected because
Acquiring long-range cruise missiles would enable Ukrainian forces to launch precision strikes deep inside Russia, and Russia's retaliatory strikes would further escalate the intensity of the war.
Trump praises Putin on nuclear arms control
US President Trump has said that President Putin's proposal on nuclear weapons control sounds good. The 2010 New START treaty between the two countries, which limits nuclear numbers, expires in 2026.
Putin proposed renewing it in September, vowing to limit the number of Russian weapons for the next year. Responding to a question about this, Trump praised Putin's stance and said it would be discussed soon.
