News Topical, Digital Desk : The number of people living illegally in America has reached an all-time high. Research group Pew Research Center reported that the number of illegal immigrants in America reached a record level of 14 million in 2023.
This was revealed in the report of Pew Research Center
This report has come at a time when US President Donald Trump has adopted a tough stance against illegal immigrants since taking office in January. The Pew Research Center is keeping a close eye on the data of illegal immigrants.
The number of such people reached a record level in 2023
According to its estimate, this number was 1.18 crore in the previous year. Whereas the number of such people reached a record high of 1.22 crore in 2007. The reason behind this increase was the 60 lakh people who had received some kind of legal protection.
Trump has given orders
Trump has eliminated many of these legal protections since taking the oath of office on January 20 this year. The Pew Research Center said it has fully analyzed 2023 data, while preliminary results for 2024 show the numbers rose that year as well.
However, the number of illegal immigrants decreased after the then President Joe Biden imposed strict restrictions on the border in June 2024. This year, there has been some reduction in their number in the Trump administration as well, but this figure is still above 1.4 crores.
A large number of Indians are also
The total number of immigrants in the US in January 2025 was 53 million, regardless of their legal status. After Mexico, people from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and India live in large numbers in the US. The number of people from Venezuela, Cuba, Colombia, Ukraine and Peru has doubled in the last two years.
Trump administration is reviewing all 55 million US visa holders
The US State Department said on Thursday it is reviewing the records of more than 55 million foreigners holding valid American visas to detect deportable violations of immigration rules or possible cancellation of those visas.
Visa will be cancelled on this basis
The department said that all US visa holders are being continuously checked to find out if they have become ineligible for this document. If such information is found, their visa will be canceled and if the visa holder is in the US, he will be deported.
The department said these disqualifications include overstaying a visa, criminal activity, threat to public safety, engagement in any type of terrorist activity or providing support to a terrorist organisation.
The US State Department said this
"We review all available information during our investigations, including law enforcement or immigration records or any other information that comes to light after a visa is issued," the department said.
