News Topical, Digital Desk : A stark contrast is currently evident in the weather across North India. While a western disturbance has brought light rain to parts of Punjab and Haryana, areas of Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are experiencing premature summer heat. The rain is expected to slightly increase the chill. Some areas of Punjab have been experiencing rain since morning.

Relief in Punjab and Gurugram

Gurugram and several other districts in Punjab received light rain and drizzle today due to the influence of a fresh western disturbance. The Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for these areas, where winds of up to 30-40 kmph and thunderstorms are expected.

Premature heat in Delhi and UP

While Punjab is experiencing rain, temperatures in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are 3 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal. Maximum temperatures in Delhi have reached between 26°C and 29°C, which is quite high for February. In Uttar Pradesh, cities like Lucknow, Kanpur, and Noida are also experiencing mild afternoon heat due to the bright sunshine.

Dust storm to hit Delhi-NCR
According to weather experts, Delhi-NCR is also likely to witness dust storm and scattered rain in the next 24 to 48 hours, which may temporarily curb the rising temperatures. However, the temperatures are expected to rise again after this. Due to low wind speed, the pollution level in Delhi-NCR still remains in the 'poor' category (between 200-300).
