Yogi Government Reopens Scholarship Portal for 2025-26: Relief for Over 2.76 Lakh Students Across Uttar Pradesh
In a significant move to support higher education and ensure financial relief for students, the Uttar Pradesh cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has approved reopening the state scholarship portal as a special case. This initiative aims to assist eligible students who missed out on scholarship and fee reimbursement benefits during the 2025-26 fiscal year due to various procedural and technical hurdles.
Benefiting Over 2.76 Lakh Students With ₹551.85 Crore
During a media briefing, Finance Minister Suresh Khanna announced that approximately 2,76,057 students across various eligible categories—encompassing the Social Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, and Minority Welfare departments—will benefit from this decision. The state government has allocated a total of ₹551.85 crore to disburse these pending scholarships and fee reimbursements directly to deserving candidates.
The category-wise financial allocation approved by the cabinet includes:

Other Backward Classes (OBC): ₹300 crore for 1,36,136 students

General Category: ₹163.42 crore for 51,078 students

Scheduled Castes (SC): ₹58.17 crore for 64,971 students

Minority Communities: ₹21.05 crore for 18,680 students

Addressing Technical and Procedural Delays
During the 2025-26 financial year, numerous eligible applicants under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme faced obstacles that prevented their processing. Common issues included educational institutions failing to forward applications on time, delayed declaration of examination results, pending verification with district-level committees, or technical transaction failures at the Public Financial Management System (PFMS) level.
Recognizing that many deserving candidates were deprived of support through no fault of their own, the Yogi cabinet resolved to intervene. The portal reopening and the expenditure of ₹551.85 crore from the current 2026-27 fiscal budget reflect the administration's commitment to ensuring that administrative technicalities do not obstruct students' educational journeys.
