Magh Mela 2027 Infrastructure Boost: Two Pontoon Bridges to Be Built on Yamuna at Arail

Magh Mela 2027 in Prayagraj, the Public Works Department (PWD) is introducing a significant infrastructure enhancement. For the very first time outside of a Mahakumbh or Kumbh cycle, two pontoon bridges will be constructed across the Yamuna River on the Arail side. This initiative aims to streamline pilgrim movement and ease travel for devotees journeying toward the sacred Sangam.

Improving Devotee Access from Arail

Historically, pontoon bridges on the Arail side were exclusively erected during major Kumbh assemblies. By introducing these bridges for Magh Mela 2027, authorities will provide direct relief to pilgrims arriving from the Yamunapar region and surrounding areas. Devotees will no longer need to navigate extended detours or walk excessive distances to reach the Sangam, significantly reducing congestion and managing crowd density within the primary fairgrounds.

Comprehensive PWD Preparations Across the Fairgrounds

As seasonal floodwaters recede, the PWD is accelerating preparations for the mela. Plans include laying approximately 200 kilometers of checkered plating across the mela terrain to ensure smooth pedestrian and vehicular movement. While transport planning remains dynamic—including considerations regarding traffic flow on the Phaphamau six-lane bridge—the addition of the Yamuna pontoon bridges underscores the state's focus on elevating pilgrim convenience, safety, and transportation infrastructure for the millions expected to attend.
