Yogi Adityanath’s 'Operation Kayakalp' is Revolutionizing UP Government Schools
Uttar Pradesh is witnessing a radical shift in its educational landscape. Moving beyond traditional schooling, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has successfully rebranded the state’s public education system into a hub of modern, smart, and quality learning. Through strategic infrastructure drives like 'Operation Kayakalp' and 'Project Alankar,' government schools in UP are no longer just buildings—they are becoming high-tech centers of excellence.
Operation Kayakalp: A Massive Infrastructure Makeover
The transformation of basic education has been nothing short of historic. Under the flagship 'Operation Kayakalp,' over 1.32 lakh primary schools have been completely overhauled. Statistics reveal a massive leap in infrastructure saturation, climbing from a mere 36% in 2017-18 to a staggering 96.30% today. Beyond just brick and mortar, the government has focused on functionality, providing 3.42 lakh student desks and benches, setting up libraries in 1.30 lakh schools, and introducing smart classrooms across thousands of institutions. Furthermore, the capacity building of over 4.50 lakh teachers in Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) is ensuring that students build a strong academic foundation from the ground up.
Future-Ready Learning: Model Schools and Girls' Education
The state is aggressively preparing for future educational demands with the establishment of 150 'Chief Minister Model Composite Schools' across 75 districts. Simultaneously, the government is focusing on bridging the gender gap by upgrading 746 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) from grades 6 to 12. By launching new residential schools for girls in underserved development blocks, the administration is ensuring that safety, modern technology, and quality learning are accessible to every girl child in the state.
Modernizing Secondary Education via 'Project Alankar'
The Secondary Education Department has seen an unprecedented expansion under 'Project Alankar.' With over 29,000 secondary schools now operating in the state, the government has added 280 new schools to the network. Modernization is the priority here, with the installation of 778 ICT labs and over 1,200 smart classrooms. This digital infrastructure is bridging the gap between urban and rural educational standards, ensuring that government secondary students are competitive in a technology-driven world.
PM Shri Schools: Aligning with National Education Policy 2020
Integrating the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Uttar Pradesh has operationalized 1,722 'PM Shri Schools.' These institutions serve as the gold standard for innovation-based learning and skill development. According to Director General of School Education, Monica Rani, the state’s unified mission is to make every government school a center for excellence. By integrating trained teachers, cutting-edge technology, and holistic pedagogy, the UP government is successfully creating an environment where every child has the confidence and the tools to build a successful future.
