From Bijnor to Global Markets: How Rural Women are Brewing Success with 'Vidur Herbal Tea'

A quiet revolution is brewing in the villages of Uttar Pradesh, and it smells like organic herbs. Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the State Rural Livelihood Mission has transformed from a support program into a powerhouse of women-led entrepreneurship. Today, women from self-help groups in Bijnor are taking their "Vidur Herbal Tea" from local fields to international markets, with franchise inquiries pouring in from the United States, England, Germany, and France.

A Small Loan, A Global Vision

The journey began with a modest seed loan of ₹1 lakh under the National Rural Livelihood Mission. Babita Rani, a pioneer from Tanda Maidas Lakhi Wala village in Bijnor, rallied a group of 10 women to launch the production of organic herbal tea. What started as a local experiment in self-reliance has snowballed into a million-rupee enterprise. These women are not only securing a steady, independent income for themselves but are also creating new employment opportunities, effectively rewriting the economic narrative of their rural community.

The Secret Ingredient: Pure Nature

What makes Vidur Herbal Tea a global sensation? The answer lies in its organic, chemical-free composition. The blend features a potent mix of health-boosting herbs including lemongrass, giloy, licorice, raw turmeric, guava leaves, cinnamon, tulsi, green cardamom, and fennel. The group currently offers two signature variants: a traditional organic herbal tea and the highly popular "Arjuna Hridaya Shakti," a versatile blend that can be brewed with both milk and water, catering to diverse health-conscious consumers.

Rapid Expansion: Scaling Up Success

The impact of this initiative is visible on the ground. The business has scaled rapidly, now available in 35 outlets and cafes across Bijnor. The momentum has spilled over into Moradabad, where two successful women-run centers are already operational, with five more cafes slated to open soon. This rapid expansion is a testament to the seamless integration of government support—championed by officials like Purna Bora—and the relentless spirit of the rural women who manage everything from production and packaging to complex marketing strategies themselves.

Empowering Women, Transforming Rural UP

Beyond the balance sheets, this venture represents a fundamental shift in gender dynamics in rural Uttar Pradesh. By handling the entire value chain—from sourcing herbs to final marketing—these women have become entrepreneurs in their own right, gaining respect and recognition. As Vidur Herbal Tea moves toward its global launch, it stands as a shining example of how the Yogi government’s focus on the Livelihood Mission is turning rural homemakers into global business leaders, one cup of tea at a time.
