CM Yogi Exposes Past Scams in Massive Flood Relief Rollout
Opening the state treasury to support agrarian families devastated by relentless rainfall, flash floods, sudden hailstorms, and cyclonic weather disturbances, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday executed a massive Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of ₹493 crore into the bank accounts of 9,18,091 farmers. Addressing a high-level relief disbursement ceremony in Gorakhpur, the Chief Minister affirmed that the double-engine administration stands firmly beside its food producers in every circumstance, completing digital damage assessments and disbursing compensation within an unprecedented turnaround time of just 8 to 10 days after the waters receded. Highlighting that total disaster assistance extended to distressed citizens across the state during the current monsoon season has touched nearly ₹1,000 crore, Adityanath underscored that modern satellite-backed crop surveys guarantee that every single approved rupee reaches the beneficiary's registered bank account without leakage, permanently dismantling the network of commission agents that once plagued agrarian relief.
From Rajiv Gandhi’s ’15 Paise’ Remark to 100% DBT: Calling Out Pre-2017 Embezzlement
Drawing a sharp contrast between current transparent governance and past administrations, Chief Minister Yogi recalled former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's historic admission that out of every 100 rupees sent by the government, barely 15 rupees reached the ground, alleging that previous Congress and Samajwadi Party regimes routinely embezzled public funds meant for the marginalized. Pointing specifically to the 2014 Hudhud cyclone, Adityanath revealed that out of ₹3,200 crore dispatched by the central government at the time, only ₹800 crore reached affected farmers under the SP government, leaving the remainder lost to corruption until post-2017 administrative audits initiated corrective payouts. He noted that while cultivators prior to 2017 faced constant outages while being slapped with inflated power bills, today over 16 lakh private tube wells receive completely free electricity alongside an expanded state canal network irrigating 22 lakh additional hectares. This systemic shift builds upon the government's foundational decision upon taking office in 2017 to waive ₹36,000 crore in outstanding agricultural debt for 86 lakh small and marginal cultivators, laying the groundwork for direct and uncompromised fiscal support.
Rebuilding Lives: ₹1.20 Lakh Housing Grants, ₹4 Lakh Ex-Gratia, and Rapid Road Restorations
Reaffirming that financial aid is not restricted solely to agrarian fields, the Chief Minister announced that rural families whose houses were completely destroyed or washed away by deluge have been sanctioned an independent grant of ₹1.20 lakh under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, distributed completely apart from the ₹493 crore agricultural subsidy. On stage, symbolic cheques for ₹1.20 lakh were handed over to beneficiaries including Reshma Devi, Chandan Kumar Paswan, Indravati Devi, and Savita Devi to expedite the construction of permanent homes. In addition to statutory compensation for partially damaged houses and livestock fatalities, the Chief Minister issued strict directives mandating that in any tragic incident involving the loss of human life, an ex-gratia amount of ₹4 lakh must be delivered to the bereaved family within 24 hours. To address infrastructure devastation, dedicated contingency funds have been released to the Irrigation Department for emergency embankment protection under MNREGA, as well as to the Public Works Department (PWD), Urban Development Department, and Local Development Authorities to restore washed-out road links and resume normal traffic movement the moment weather conditions clear.
Early Warning Radars, ₹5 Lakh Accident Cover, and Limitless Kharif Procurement from October 15
To mitigate future climate risks, the state administration has accelerated the deployment of automated weather stations, rain gauges, and lightning early-warning radars that transmit real-time cautionary SMS alerts directly to farmers' mobile phones, advising them to take shelter inside concrete structures rather than remaining exposed under trees or open fields. In the unfortunate event of fatal lightning strikes or natural calamities, the state provides immediate compensation of ₹5 lakh to farmers, sharecroppers, and eligible dependents under the Mukhyamantri Krishak Durghatna Kalyan Yojana, with field officers directed to process claims without delay. Addressing the impending harvest, Chief Minister Yogi announced that official state procurement counters for paddy, sorghum, pearl millet (bajra), and maize will begin operations on October 15 across waterlogged districts, assuring cultivators that the government has eliminated all procurement limits and caps. Reaffirming the central philosophy inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi honoring farmer champion Chaudhary Charan Singh with the Bharat Ratna, the Chief Minister declared that state mandis will purchase every grain brought by farmers at fair Minimum Support Prices, with sales revenues credited directly to their bank accounts via DBT.
