News Topical, Digital Desk : Two people were killed and one injured in a shooting at South Carolina State University in the US on Thursday evening. The university confirmed the news in a statement, saying it has asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate.

Officers from the South Carolina State Department of Public Safety, along with the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office, are patrolling the area.

Campus lockdown

South Carolina State's campus was placed on lockdown around 9:15 p.m. Thursday and remained so for four hours. The university said SLED investigators are still on scene. The victim's identity has not been released. Law enforcement has not released any information about a possible suspect.

The university canceled classes

University classes have been canceled for Friday, and counselors are available for students. South Carolina State University has been in lockdown since Thursday night due to the shooting, the university said.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the South Carolina State Department of Public Safety have been contacted.
