News Topical, Digital Desk : US President Donald Trump will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House. Meanwhile, speculation is rife that the US may provide Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles, which could potentially change the course of the war.

The meeting follows Trump's positive phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the two leaders discussed efforts to end the conflict.

Trump recently said, "We have plenty of Tomahawks, but we can't take them away from our country." Trump's comments came after Putin warned that such a move would severely damage US-Russia relations and would not change the situation on the battlefield.

Zelensky hopes to get Tomahawk

Zelensky hopes the US might give them Tomahawk missiles. Earlier this week, he said, "We see and hear that Russia fears the Americans might give us Tomahawks, and that such pressure could be effective for peace."

Ukraine's acquisition of Tomahawks will increase Kremlin's concerns

Trump's hesitation comes amid renewed diplomatic efforts. He plans to meet with Putin in Budapest soon to discuss peace proposals, as he calls ending the war a top foreign policy goal. But with Moscow intensifying its attacks and Ukraine demanding more advanced weapons, the potential sale of Tomahawks has become a topic of discussion, energizing Kyiv and worrying the Kremlin.

The Tomahawk cruise missile, developed by Raytheon in the 1970s, remains a cornerstone of the US and its allies' strike capabilities. Used in Iraq, Libya, and Syria, it combines range, accuracy, and secrecy. Therefore, if Ukraine were to acquire these missiles, it would create new problems for Russia. The Kremlin would never want the US to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles.
