News Topical, Digital Desk : India is home to many famous and divine temples, in which devotees have unwavering faith. One such temple is the Tirupati Balaji Temple, located in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Devotees from far and wide come here to have darshan of Lord Sri Venkateswara. Furthermore, the tradition of devotees offering their hair at this temple has been going on for centuries. Let us tell you the story behind people donating their hair.

To whom did sage Bhrigu give the fruits of the yajna?

According to legend, a yajna was once performed for the welfare of the world. The question arose as to who would receive the fruits of the yajna. The sage Bhrigu was entrusted with the task of determining this. Bhrigu first approached Brahma and then Lord Shiva, but found neither unsuitable for offering the fruits of the yajna. Finally, he went to Vaikund Dham to meet Lord Vishnu, where he was resting.

Vishnu Ji did not notice Sage Bhrigu's arrival. Sage Bhrigu took this as an insult and, in a fit of rage, kicked Lord Vishnu's chest. Vishnu Ji, with great humility, grabbed the Sage's feet and asked, "O Sage! Are your feet hurt?" Hearing this, Sage Bhrigu realized his mistake and decided to give the fruits of the sacrifice to Vishnu Ji.

Why did Lakshmi ji leave Baikund Dham

Goddess Lakshmi was saddened by this insult to Lord Vishnu by Sage Bhrigu. She wanted to avenge this insult, but Lord Hari refused. Angered, Lakshmi left Vaikund Dham. Goddess Lakshmi started living on Earth, and Lord Vishnu tried many times to find her, but failed. Finally, Lord Vishnu was born on Earth as Srinivasa. Lord Shiva and Brahma also took the form of a cow and a calf to help Lord Vishnu. Lakshmi was born on Earth as Padmavati. After some time, Srinivasa and Padmavati got married.

This is how the tradition of offering hair started

To complete certain wedding rituals, Lord Vishnu borrowed money from Lord Kubera and promised to repay the loan, including interest, by the end of Kali Yuga. Since then, devotees have been donating some form of charity to repay Kubera's debt to Lord Vishnu. Hair is also a common donation. It is believed that anyone who donates hair to a temple will receive tenfold the amount of money back from the Lord. Furthermore, Goddess Lakshmi's blessings remain with that person.
