News Topical, Digital Desk : India has appealed to the entire world to ensure that Pakistan-based UN-designated terrorist organisations like Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed do not use Afghan soil for terrorist activities.
India has clearly stated that these organizations and their supporters must be prevented from misusing Afghan soil. Ambassador Parvathaneni Harish, India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, made this statement at the Security Council meeting on Afghanistan on Wednesday.
Harish said that India and Afghanistan share a deep civilizational bond. India deeply desires peace and progress in Afghanistan. He said that India is closely monitoring the security situation in Afghanistan.
Cooperation needed to curb terrorism
Harish said the world must unite to ensure that UN-designated terrorist organizations, such as the Islamic State, al-Qaeda and their affiliates Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed, do not use Afghanistan to spread terror.
He alluded to Pakistan without naming it. India believes that global and regional consensus is essential for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
India is actively involved in this regard and is participating in various forums, including the UN meetings in Doha. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has spoken twice with Afghanistan's Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi. India also welcomed Afghanistan's condemnation of the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam.
India helped Afghanistan with humanitarian aid
Harish said that after the recent earthquake in Afghanistan, India immediately sent aid. India delivered tents for 1,000 families and 15 tons of food to the affected areas. In addition, 21 tons of relief supplies, including medicines, blankets, and generators, were sent. More relief supplies are expected to arrive soon.
India has provided 50,000 tonnes of wheat, 330 tonnes of medicines and vaccines, 40,000 litres of pesticides, and other essential supplies to Afghanistan since the Taliban took control of Kabul in August 2021. In collaboration with the United Nations, India also provided 84 tonnes of medicines for de-addiction programmes and 32 tonnes of social assistance materials, especially for women.
'India wants to see Afghanistan prosper'
Harish stressed that India's commitment to the progress of the Afghan people is unwavering. India has implemented more than 500 development projects in all provinces of Afghanistan.
He said that old policies will not work in Afghanistan. New policies and assistance are needed to help the Afghan people escape poverty, disease, and hunger.
India stands ready to work with all parties to bring peace, stability, and prosperity to Afghanistan. Harish said that assistance and capacity building of the Afghan people is India's top priority.
