News Topical, Digital Desk : Tata Power, a major Tata Group company, informed after the stock market closed on Friday that the company has signed a major agreement with Druk Green Power for the 1125 MW Dorjilung Hydro Electric Project in Bhutan. The company said in the information given to the exchange that it has signed a commercial agreement with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited (DGPC) for the 1125 MW Dorjilung Hydro Electric Power Project.
The project will be developed on a run-of-the-river model on the Kurichhu River in Mongar, Bhutan, consisting of six units of 187.5 MW each. A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be formed for the project, with DGPC holding a 60% stake and Tata Power holding a 40% stake. Tata Power will
invest approximately ₹1,572 crore in tranches, with the total project cost estimated at ₹13,100 crore. This will be Bhutan's second-largest hydro project and the country's largest public-private partnership hydro project to date. The project is expected to be completed by September 2031, and 80% of its production will be supplied to India, strengthening regional energy security and clean electricity availability. This World Bank-supported project is considered to be a new direction for India-Bhutan energy cooperation. Share Performance Tata Power shares closed down 0.31% at ₹386.90 on Friday. The company's stock has declined 5.18% over the past year.
