News Topical, Digital Desk : Police detained about 50 people on Saturday after violence erupted late night in the Junigarhi area of ​​Vadodara city in Gujarat over an internet media post. Police said some people, including policemen, were injured in the stone-pelting. But the situation was soon brought under control.

Members of the Muslim community had gathered outside the city police station on Friday night, saying their religious sentiments were hurt by a post on the internet media and demanded action against the person who posted it, an official said.

How many people gathered

Police Commissioner (Zone 4) Andrew McWan said a mob of about 500 to 600 members of the minority community pelted stones and vandalized vehicles in the Junigarhi area. He said some people, including police officers, were injured in the incident.

The DCP said two separate FIRs have been filed, one against the person who posted the objectionable content and the other against those who committed violence. He added, “We have detained around 50 people.”

Police appealed

According to police sources, the person who allegedly posted the objectionable content has also been detained. DCP (Zone 3) Leena Patil said, "The situation was brought under control immediately. We have deployed a large number of police forces in the affected areas. We appeal to the people of the city to maintain peace. Action is being taken in the matter."
