News Topical, Digital Desk : According to the Vedic calendar, Sakat Chauth (Sakat Chauth 2026), also known as Tilkut Chauth, is observed annually on the Chaturthi (fourth day) of the Krishna Paksha (dark fortnight) of the month of Magh. This year, the fast will be observed on Tuesday, January 6th. On this day, women observe a waterless fast for the long life, good health, and future of their children.

Do Parana like this

On Sakat Chauth, the fast is broken by offering prayers to the Moon God at night, following the prescribed rituals. In the evening, worship Lord Ganesha during the auspicious time and offer him Tilkut (a sacred ash). Light a lamp in front of the deity and listen to the Sakat Chauth story. Chanting Lord Ganesha's mantras and offering 21 Durva grass to Ganesha during the puja is considered very auspicious.

Break your fast after offering prayers to the moon at night. During the Parana (fasting time), first consume sesame seeds and jaggery-based foods, followed by fruits, milk, and sweet potatoes. Eat food the next day.

Chant these mantras

1. Ganesh Beej Mantra – Oo Gan Ganapataye Namah”

2. "Om Gan Ganpataye Sarva Karya Siddhi Kuru Kuru Swaha"

3. Ganesh Gayatri Mantra - Om Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabhah. God is always working without any obstacles in Kuru.

4. Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samprabha.
God is always working without any obstacles in Kuru.

Be sure to keep these things in mind

Devotees observing the Sakat Chauth fast should not wear black clothing. According to Hindu beliefs, wearing black clothing for any auspicious occasion is considered inauspicious. When offering water to the moon during the fast, be careful not to let water splash on your feet. The Sakat Chauth fast is considered incomplete without Tilkut. Therefore, don't forget to offer Tilkut to Lord Ganesha on this day.
