News Topical, Digital Desk : A shocking incident has come to light from Karachi, Pakistan. Pornographic videos were played on digital street grocery advertising screens in the city's Defence Housing Authority (DHA). Following public outrage, police filed a case against the suspects, leading to one arrest.
Karachi South Deputy Inspector General Syed Asad Raza confirmed the development, reports the Pakistani newspaper Dawn. Officials said that as a precautionary measure, digital screens on Shahrah-e-Faisal and Karsaz Road, along with other major roads in the DHA, were temporarily shut down.
What did the police say?
Asad Raza said that during the investigation, police arrested a company employee. He said, "Another video already on his mobile phone was accidentally played on the screen."
"The suspect also told investigators that the original videos sent by the company for advertising purposes were saved on his mobile phone," Raza said, adding that the interrogation of the arrested suspect was ongoing.
Pornographic videos played on a digital screen mounted on a pole
The case was registered at the Gizri police station under Section 292 (selling obscene books) of the Pakistan Penal Code based on a complaint by the company's legal advisor, Shakir Ali. The complaint stated that an obscene video was being shown on a digital screen mounted on a pole near the Ayesha Manzil signal on Khayaban-e-Ittehad.
The company's operations director called Ali at 9:37 a.m. Wednesday to inform him that a pornographic video was playing on the screen. The complainant said he personally went to the site and had the screen turned off.
The complaint also states that the company's management suspects that one or more employees accessed the system without permission and played the video with the intention of defaming the company.
