New Delhi: Two Rajya Sabha MPs of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's party YSRCP have resigned. The resignation of Beeda Masthan Rao Jadhav and Venkataraman Rao Mopidevi has been accepted by Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Beeda Masthan Rao's term was to end in June 2028. He left the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and joined the YSRCP. Now there is speculation about his return to TDP.
YSRCP's numbers will decrease in Rajya Sabha
According to sources, Mopidevi's term was till June 2026. She too can join TDP. After the resignation of these two members, the number of YSRCP members in the Rajya Sabha has come down from 11 to nine. TDP, a major ally of the NDA, has no representation in the Rajya Sabha. It is learnt that TDP may field Mastan Rao in the by-election but Mopidevi is not keen to return to the Rajya Sabha.
NDA's seats are sure to increase in the by-elections!
In case of by-elections, both the seats are almost certain to go to TDP. As a result, the number of members of the ruling NDA in the Rajya Sabha will increase by two. At present, the number of BJP members in the Rajya Sabha has increased to 96. If we talk about the number of NDA members, it has also increased to 112. Eight more seats are still vacant in the 245-member Rajya Sabha. These include four seats of Jammu and Kashmir and four seats of nominated members.
NDA touched the majority figure
At present, the majority figure in the Rajya Sabha is 119 members. The NDA also has the support of six nominated and one independent and thus the NDA has touched the majority figure. Apart from TDP, BJP's allies in the Upper House include JDU, NCP (Ajit Pawar), JDS, RPI-A), Shiv Sena (Shinde), RLD, NPP, PMK and UPPL.
