News Topical, Digital Desk : Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Indian space startup Skyroot Aerospace's state-of-the-art "Infinity Campus" via video conferencing on Thursday. He also unveiled Skyroot's first orbital rocket, "Vikram-I," which has the capability to successfully launch satellites into orbit.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) on Tuesday, Prime Minister Modi on this occasion praised the growing role of the private sector in India's space sector. He said, "Today India is going through an unprecedented phase in the space sector. The private sector is now taking a big leap in India's space ecosystem." PM Modi further said that Skyroot's Infinity complex is "a reflection of India's new thinking, innovation and youth power."

Features of Infinity Campus

  • This state-of-the-art 'Infinity Campus' at Skyroot will become a hub of innovation and manufacturing.
  • The centre is spread over a vast workspace of approximately 200,000 square feet.
  • It is designed for the design, development, integration and testing of multi-launch vehicles.
  • The facility will have the capacity to produce one orbital rocket per month, which will be crucial in meeting India's commercial space needs.

A venture by former ISRO scientists

Skyroot Aerospace is India's leading private space company, founded by former ISRO scientists and Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) alumni Pawan Chandna and Bharat Dhaka.

In November 2022, Skyroot successfully launched its sub-orbital rocket, Vikram-S, becoming the first Indian private company to launch a rocket into space.
