This fortnight is dedicated to the ancestors. During this, Shradh, Tarpan and Pinddaan of ancestors are performed from Pratipada date of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month to Amavasya date.

Garuda Purana states that ancestors live on earth from the Pratipada date of the Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month to the Amavasya date. After the final tarpan on the day of Ashwin Amavasya, ancestors return to their world.

When should the shraddha of the dead who died of snakebite be performed?

How to perform Shraddha?

On the fifth day of Krishna Paksha of Ashwin month, after bathing and meditating, make a hood shaped snake out of flour on the ground. Now apply white and fragrant sandalwood.
