Paush Amavasya holds special significance, as the month of Paush is considered the month dedicated to the worship of the Sun God. This date is especially important for the worship of ancestors. Bathing in a holy river and offering prayers to ancestors on this day brings peace to their souls and frees them from ancestral curses. Puja Rules (Paush Amavasya 2025 Rituals)
- Wake up early in the morning and bathe in a holy river. If this is difficult, bathe at home by adding Ganga water to your bathwater.
- Wear clean or new clothes after bathing.
- Put pure water, red sandalwood and red flowers in a copper vessel and offer arghya to Sun God.
- Facing south, offer water mixed with sesame seeds to your ancestors.
- On this day, offer water to the Peepal tree and light a mustard oil lamp under the Peepal tree in the evening.
- For the peace of the souls of ancestors, donate food, clothes, black sesame seeds or blanket to a poor person or a Brahmin.
- If possible, keep a fast on this day and worship Lord Shiva along with Lord Vishnu.
