News Topical,Digital Desk : China on Monday said it welcomes all measures to "calm down" the current situation between India and Pakistan, including a "prompt and impartial investigation" into the Pahalgam terror attack, and expressed support for safeguarding the sovereignty and security of its all-weather ally.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said at a media briefing that China welcomes all measures to calm the current situation and supports an impartial investigation as soon as possible.

Will China participate in the investigation?

However, he did not directly answer the question whether Beijing would participate in the investigation, as according to a Russian media report, Pakistan wants China and Russia to be part of the investigation into the Pahalgam attack. He also evaded another question about the fairness and credibility of any investigation in view of allegations against Pakistan of sponsoring cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that as a common neighbour of India and Pakistan, China hopes that the two sides will exercise restraint, get along with each other and properly handle relevant differences through dialogue and consultation, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability.

The spokesperson said that both India and Pakistan are important countries in South Asia and harmonious co-existence between the two countries is important for regional peace, stability and development.

China condemned the Pahalgam terrorist attack

It is noteworthy that China strongly condemned the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 23 in which 26 people, mostly tourists, were killed. China's first reaction to the growing tension between India and Pakistan came when Pakistan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called China's top diplomat Wang Yi on Sunday and sought support from Beijing.

Pakistan had talked to China

According to a report in China's state-run newspaper 'Global Times', Wang spoke to Dar over the phone at his request. Wang later supported Pakistan, but did not mention the various steps taken by India, including suspending the Indus Water Treaty.

Tension between the two countries should be reduced: Turkiye

Meanwhile, Turkey has also called for reducing tensions. Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday that his country wants the tensions between India and Pakistan to be reduced.
